Email from dealer on a Pilot I’m shopping for a customer - “The 2016 Honda Pilot EXL AWD has an MSRP of $38,585 and your Special Internet Buyers Club Price is $38,585 ,” Oh man...it’s a good thing I am a special internet buyer, because I would have never been able to get a Honda for sticker price otherwise!
...and you just lost the sale.

Dayum, had no idea that a Pilot is 40k

That’s just the EX-L and Elite trim is 47k.

Wowzers! You should jump on that special pricing then haha.

Because treating your potential customer base like it’s stupid right out of the gate proves you don’t deserve anyone’s business.

That’s just like in the early days of Amazon where the prices were set by volume with no damping. You’d regularly find something that would have a spike in sales for whatever reason (Oprah Book Club, some big review) and since the sales spiked Amazon would raise the prices. When you went and looked at the page it’d be like “List Price: 8.99”, “Amazon price: 10.99”, “You saved -2.00!”.
Was hilarious.

They are selling like hot cakes, so I can understand that in that light.
I’m curious though. What kind of prices have you actually been able to get on EX-L and Touring models? (your own experience, hot hearsay please)
And what are your thoughts on the ‘16 Pilot? If you’ve had the chance to drive one, I’d like to hear

Haven’t driven a 16 yet, but did see it in person and it is very nice...and to be honest I haven’t gotten a request for a new Pilot in a long time. I’ve done a bunch of CPO ones and did one new one a few years back. I know I got it under invoice but don’t remember the actual price. I was trying to convince this client to get a Pathfinder because I can get those 4-5k off sticker all day long in the NJ/PA area.

Once this deal is finalized sometime this week I can get back to you with actual pricing on a 16 EX-L.

Yeah, but the Pilot is a much better car
![]() 11/17/2015 at 10:33 |

But on a 3 year lease is it 5k better? If you are going to own it for 7 years maybe.

I have a lease on a 2013 Pilot EX for $271 per month. I am 2 years into it, 10/1/2016 is when I get to return it.
Dealer just sent me an early termination option, and I can get into a new Pilot for $7000 down and $470 per month. Awesome deal, right??

WAT? 7k down 470/mo? Is that for a purchase? Best quote I got so far is 3k down 483/mo with taxes and fees on a 16 EX-L AWD.

Nope, to lease. It is ridiculous - my payout is 21k. Value of the car as it stands with NADA is 23-24k. I am not sure how they think they are giving me a deal of any sort...

What trim level do you think is the “sweet spot” with these?
![]() 11/17/2015 at 13:40 |

Depends on if you want leather...if so EX-L with Honda Sense, if not EX with Honda Sense, for only an extra grand you get all the advance safety features.

I’m sure she want the “Honda Sense suite” but to be honest, I’m still on the fence about all this autopilot stuff. In the long run, we’d probably get it if we got a Pilot, but it still makes me uneasy that that car can take control.

With all these morons on cell phones not paying attention, the auto braking feature is nice to have.

Yeah, my brain tells me that the computer is less likely to screw up than a human driver (my wife or me), but there’s still some part of me that wonders what happens when it does make a mistake.

My dad is currently in the market for a new car, his budget is 40k and it must be a 7 passenger 4wd suv/crossover, he wants leather, nav, dualpower seats, and the goodies. What is his best bet? Please no acadia/traverse/enclave suggestions as his 2011 acadia that cost 8,000 in maintenance this year is the reason for his trade. We need something reliable and decent to drive.

Well, can’t really go wrong with the Pilot or Highlander. Pilot EX-L w/ Nav comes in at 39,605. I don’t know what the Toyota is off-hand but I’m sure it’s close. The Pathfinder and Explorer are also nice alternatives and I quite like the Kia Sorento.

Ive heard bad things about the cvt in the pathfinder and my dad aboslutely hates kias so the sorentos out...

Like I said...the Pilot and Highlanders are good safe bets.

My favorite is when you’re on a dealer’s website and they have this:
Price: $31,209
Click for your special ePrice!
After you click and put your information in, they will email you their ePrice, which is the same as the listed price. Or no price at all, just asking when you’re going to come in.

Probably the base model the way manufacturers charge ridiculous amounts for a single chrome tail pipe.

my question with all this autobraking nonsense, is what happens in the situation I had yesterday coming home from work where I was changing lanes in heavy traffic and the guy ahead of me in the lane I was changing into slammed on the brakes as I was part way through the lane change due to someone in front of him and the guy behind me in the lane I was leaving was about an inch and a half off my bumper and accelerating to dive around me before I was even out of the lane..
I had to finely balance my braking to brake just enough to not hit the guy in front of me while not getting rear-ended by the other guy, couldn’t swerve back to my original lane and slamming into my destination lane under hard breaking would have upset the car.

My understanding is that the system will only intervene if you are not using the brake and collision is imminent. If you are modualting the brake it would kick in.
